The continuing professional Certificate is to commence in September 2011 and the continuing Diploma in March 2012. Each course is of 6 months duration and they have been developed by Liverpool John Moores University and Knowles A Hill International.
Both courses are designed to be delivered by distance learning and their aim is to improve the effectiveness of any professional engaged in construction or engineering activity by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the principles governing construction and engineering contracts. It is envisaged that the courses will be of interest to, and relevant for: Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, lawyers and any individual involved in the procurement and/or management of the built environment.
The content for the Certificate course includes an introduction to the English Legal System, Contract and Tort, Contract Administration and Conflict Management, whilst the content for the Diploma course covers Arbitration, Procurement and Contract Claim Preparation. There is also an optional residential period in association with Knowles. Feedback will be given on the basis of written exercises, assignments and on line tests. It is also envisaged that applicants for the diploma will have completed the certificate course first.
Applicants who successfully conclude the courses will receive a certificate and/or diploma of Satisfactory Completion although neither of these carry formal University credits. The fee for the certificate will be £1,500 and the fee for the diploma will be £2,000 with additional costs for the residential element should students choose to attend.
